Topping Out

"Completion of the building will truly enable us to take our vision of patient-centered, multidisciplinary team care—what we call the "Winship Way"—to an entirely new level."

Dear Winship Colleagues,

We have important events to celebrate this week after the "topping out" event for Winship Emory Midtown, and as we look forward to the upcoming Winship 5K race on October 2.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone working hard to keep us on time and target to complete our state-of-the-art new Winship Emory Midtown facility. The "topping out" event on August 26 brought together and celebrated the construction crew, the architects, Winship leaders and others involved in building the new 17-story hospital adjacent to Emory University Hospital Midtown.

All of us are touched by cancer in more than one way, either personally or through our friends and loved ones. It's exciting—and another reason to celebrate—that we have a lot more treatment options and better advances in managing patients with cancer. There's a lot of room for hope, and cancer care is changing very fast. What we envision is that in this facility we will be able to offer state-of-the-art treatments and provide patients the cures they are looking for, and to instill hope.

As one of the architects for the project provided a tour of the first two floors of the building, describing what the spaces now under construction will become, one thing became very clear: Completion of the building will truly enable us to take our vision of patient-centered, multidisciplinary team care—what we call the "Winship Way"—to an entirely new level. We celebrate this important milestone as we look forward to completing and opening the new facility in early 2023.

We are also looking forward to our annual Winship 5K on October 2. It will be a great opportunity to get together with faculty, staff, friends and survivors in support of our research programs. I hope to see you, your friends, family and colleagues at this important event.

Thanks to every one of you for making Winship a place where science becomes hope.

Sincerely,

Ram
