Tom Reynolds and his family have pledged a new gift of $250,000 to the Patricia R. Reynolds Endowment for Sarcoma Research at Winship Cancer Institute, bringing the Reynolds Endowment total to $750,000. The endowment was established with an initial gift of $250,000 to honor the memory of Patricia R. Reynolds—wife, mother, grandmother—who was treated for sarcoma at Winship.
Sarcomas are rare, accounting for only 3 percent of all cancers. As a result, funding for research lags that of more common forms of cancer. With this endowment, Reynolds and his family are pursuing one of their philanthropic goals—ensuring that Georgians have access to a world-class sarcoma program here at home.
“My grief motivated me to start a family charitable foundation—the Thomas B. and Patricia Reynolds Family Foundation,” says Reynolds, who is founder of Peach State Truck Centers and a member of the Winship Advisory Board.
“Anything you do in remembrance is satisfying; you experience the joy of giving. I wanted my children [Ann, Rick and Tim] and grandchildren to experience that too. They are learning about the joy of philanthropy. My wife would be so pleased.”
This is the largest gift to date in the history of Winship’s sarcoma program.
