Irene Hammer-McLaughlin will join Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University on October 5th as Executive Director of Development.

Irene Hammer-McLaughlin will join Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University (Winship) on October 5th as Executive Director of Development. Hammer-McLaughlin will lead Winship's advancement team who work closely with leadership in supporting Winship's mission as Georgia's first and only National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The team was responsible for raising more than $29 million in philanthropic donations for Winship in the fiscal year ending in August.

"Irene brings to Winship significant experience in leading philanthropic programs in both health care and academic medicine," says Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, the Lawrence W. Davis Chair in Radiation Oncology and the Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar and Chair in Cancer Research. "I am very excited that she'll be leading our team!"

Hammer-McLaughlin joins Winship from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, where she provided strategic vision and direction as senior director of development for five years. Previously, she served as director of development at Harvard Medical School. She was previously the associate director of principal and major gifts at Alzheimer's Association, a development officer at Northeastern University, and Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA.

Hammer-McLaughlin holds a bachelor of arts in literature and rhetoric from State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton, a master of arts in literature in English from Northeastern University, and is currently pursuing a master of business administration in non-profit management from Regis University.
