Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, will join Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University (Winship) November 9th as director of its Glenn Family Breast Center and as associate professor in Emory University School of Medicine's Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology.
Kalinsky comes to Winship from New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, N.Y., after serving on the faculty for 12 years as a breast cancer physician and investigator. His research includes recent publications of studies in new drug development and therapies for metastatic breast cancer. Kalinsky was lead author on a study now online in Annals of Oncology on "Sacituzumab Govitecan in Previously Treated Hormone Receptor-Positive/HER2-Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer: Final Results from a Phase 1/2, Single-Arm, Basket Trial."
"Kevin is a nationally recognized leader in developing new therapeutic approaches to women with breast cancer. He will expand Winship's portfolio of innovative translational research for women with breast cancer," says Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, the Lawrence W. Davis Chair in Radiation Oncology and the Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar and Chair in Cancer Research.
As director of the Glenn Family Breast Center at Winship, Kalinsky is tasked with fulfilling the vision to improve breast cancer outcomes by aligning research and education with cancer treatment and prevention. He will provide leadership and individual scholarship in clinical/translational research, patient care, mentorship of junior faculty, and breast cancer education. The Glenn Family Breast Center, Winship's first named and endowed center, was established in 2013 through gifts from the Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation.

Kalinsky started his academic career in Atlanta, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Emory College. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and a Masters in Biostatistics, Patient Oriented Research Track from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. His training included a residency and fellowships at Tufts-New England Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Kalinsky comes at an ideal time to lead Winship's multidisciplinary breast cancer team, which has expanded with the addition of several new physicians in radiation oncology, medical oncology, and surgical oncology.
