Overby joins Winship from the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she served as the associate director for research administration and director of the Clinical Research Office.
Overby will lead a team of more than 180 clinical research professionals and manage Winship's portfolio of over 300 ongoing trials. She will be responsible for providing expertise and strategic direction to all aspects of cancer specific clinical research supported by the Winship Clinical Trials Office, including National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Clinical Protocol Data Management operations.
"Amy is a highly-skilled and dedicated clinical research leader, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Winship," says Bassel El-Rayes, MD, associate director for clinical research. "She is an outstanding person to lead a team that is integral to accelerating discovery and leading-edge treatments at Winship."
Overby brings more than 25 years of experience in clinical research, biotechnology, and laboratory sciences to the team. During her tenure at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center, she was involved in the operations of the center's clinical trials program as well as preparations for the Cancer Center Support Grant renewal. She also served as interim director of the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance, a statewide network based at the cancer center and dedicated to ensuring all residents of New Mexico have access to cancer clinical trials. The Alliance, a not-for-profit 501c(3), is funded in part by the cancer center's NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) grant for Minority/Underserved Community Sites.
