Faculty and trainees from Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University will lead sessions and share their latest discoveries at the 114th annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) in Orlando, Fl., April 14-19, 2023.

With more than 54,000 members from 130 countries and territories, AACR is the first and largest cancer research organization dedicated to accelerating the conquest of cancer. Its annual meeting brings together cancer researchers from all over the world to discuss the current state of the science, address emerging challenges and present new findings in basic, translational, clinical, prevention and population research.

Organized around the theme “Advancing the Frontiers of Cancer Science and Medicine,” this year’s meeting features several Winship research members as invited speakers or session chairs. Methods workshops on April 14 and 15 include talks from Susan N. Thomas, PhD, and Winship Deputy Director Adam I. Marcus, PhD. Joellen Schildkraut, PhD, MPH, will chair a population sciences mini-symposium on April 16, and Justin Yustein, MD, PhD, will chair an awards session on April 18. Also on April 18, Winship Executive Director Suresh S. Ramalingam, MD, will present, “Novel Approaches to Overcome Acquired Resistance in EGFR Mutant Lung Cancer,” during a meet-the-expert session. On April 19, the final day of the meeting, Gabe Kwong, PhD, will share his research at the Dharma Master Jiantai Advances in Biomarkers Session: Next Generation Technologies and Biomarkers for the Early Detection of Cancer.

Thirty-two Winship-led poster presentations will describe exciting progress in the development of new targeted and immune-based cancer therapies, drug delivery systems and screening techniques, as well as innovative strategies to overcome drug resistance, reduce symptoms and improve outcomes for patients with cancer. Winship poster presenters include Adeiye Pilgrim, an MD/PhD student from Emory University School of Medicine, who received a 2023 AACR Minority Scholar in Cancer Research Award. Pilgrim will present, "The Yes-Associated Protein (YAP) regulates GD2 immunotherapy response in high-risk neuroblastoma," during a poster session on April 18.
