Winship’s newly renovated spaces enhance patient care offerings

Newly renovated spaces at Winship's Clifton campus and Emory Johns Creek Hospital locations enhance patient service offerings and improve overall flow for patients and staff.

Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University recently opened newly renovated spaces at its Clifton campus and Emory Johns Creek Hospital that enhance patient service offerings and improve overall flow for patients and staff.

At Winship's Clifton campus, the renovated first floor of Building C includes a redesigned lobby, the new Glenn Family Breast Cancer Center with 18 new exam rooms and a dedicated cancer physical therapy and lymphedema space. The clinic is adjacent to the Emory Breast Imaging Center, which was also renovated. Additional new amenities on the first floor include a new integrative oncology clinic with four exam rooms, a wellness center, a chapel, a cafe and offices for financial counselors.

"With these renovations, we were able to improve patient flow through the first floor, while expanding our offerings for our patients, by bringing services into the building that we have not had before," says Katherine Wright, MPH, Winship's director of operations. "The new spaces are engineered to grow and flex to meet our future needs as well."

Emory Johns Creek Hospital now offers a dedicated entrance for Winship patients and their caregivers, leading directly into a centralized check-in and waiting room area. The newly renovated hematology and medical oncology outpatient clinic features five additional clinic rooms and three consult rooms. The expanded ambulatory infusion center has six new quick injection chairs and access to a specialty pharmacy that was added in July 2020. These renovations are in addition to a new parking deck and two new floors completed in 2021, which added 40 beds to the existing 110-bed acute care service at Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

"We are excited to have this new space available for our patients," says Donna McDaniel, MN, RN, OCN, Nursing Specialty Director for Winship at Johns Creek and Buford. "It is another example of Winship's focus on enhancing the patient’s experience."

These renovations are part of a continued effort by Winship to grow and enhance its facilities. In 2022, the new Rollins Immediate Care Center opened at Emory University Hospital on the Clifton campus to provide acute care for Winship patients. A new, uniquely designed 17-story full-service inpatient and outpatient cancer care center, Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown will open in May 2023 on the Emory University Hospital Midtown campus.
