Winship researcher Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil, delivered the keynote presentation at the 2024 UGA-Winship Cancer Research Summit.

Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and the University of Georgia (UGA) hosted nearly 100 researchers on the Emory campus in Atlanta for the 2024 UGA-Winship Cancer Research Summit on April 22. The annual summit highlights strengths and synergies of the two institutions and explores opportunities to collaborate on cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment efforts.

This year’s summit featured a keynote presentation from Winship researcher Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil, the Lawrence W. Davis Professor and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine, who addressed progress in breast cancer research and treatment and where the field is heading. Faculty, trainees and students presented emerging cancer research spanning basic, translational, clinical and population sciences. In addition, recipients of the most recent UGA-Winship joint pilot grant discussed their inter-institutional project, “Exploring the Therapeutic Potential of Apolipoprotein L1 for Human Cancers” (principal investigators: Gregory B. Lesinski, PhD, MPH, and Stephen Hajduk, PhD).

The day concluded with a reception and scientific poster session showcasing research from UGA and Winship students, trainees and lab members, with awards given to the top-scoring posters from each institution.
