Mark Winne earned a reputation over the years as a tough investigative reporter for WSB-TV, but when he grabs the microphone every year as emcee of the Winship Win the Fight 5K, he's all heart: "This is a joyous occasion. It's about victory, not just for those with the medals, it's about victory over cancer, it's about a fight that is being won."
Winne knows all about that fight. Kate, his wife of 30 years, has undergone several surgical and radiation procedures as well as chemotherapy and immunotherapy at Winship for the treatment of her colon cancer. She's been right by her husband's side to cheer on the 5K participants: "To have all these people who are caretakers, doctors, nurses, just people who have been touched by cancer one way or another supporting all of us is just overwhelming, because that's what it takes. It takes everybody working in a positive direction, moving together in a positive way."
