Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University offers a comprehensive, research-driven gynecologic oncology program designed to support referring physicians and deliver the highest level of care for patients with gynecologic cancers. As Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Winship provides access to advanced diagnostics, leading-edge therapies and clinical trials not widely available elsewhere.

Why refer to Winship Gynecologic Oncology

  • Rapid access to care: Patients are evaluated quickly — often within 72 hours or sooner — with flexible options including in-person and virtual consultations.
  • A unique, continuous care model: Our gynecologic oncologists function as both surgeons and medical oncologists, managing the full spectrum of care without handoffs. This continuity supports more informed decision-making and a stronger patient-physician relationship.
  • Comprehensive expertise in gynecologic cancers: Patients benefit from a team with deep experience treating cervical, ovarian, uterine (endometrial), vulvar and vaginal cancers, gestational trophoblastic disease, and rare gynecologic tumors and sarcomas.
  • Georgia’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center: Patients who begin care at an NCI-designated center may experience improved outcomes, supported by research, innovation and specialized expertise.
  • Access to cutting-edge therapies: Including targeted therapy, immunotherapy, minimally invasive techniques and a robust portfolio of clinical trials.

Multidisciplinary, coordinated care

Your patients benefit from a highly collaborative model that brings together:

  • Gynecologic oncology
  • Gynecology-trained radiation oncology
  • Radiology, pathology and pharmacy
  • Palliative care and integrative oncology
  • Nutrition, social work and financial counseling

Each patient is supported by a dedicated nurse navigator, serving as a consistent point of contact from diagnosis through survivorship. This “quarterback” approach improves coordination, reduces patient burden and ensures timely responses to clinical needs.

Winship also offers one of the region’s first oncology-specific Immediate Care Centers, providing urgent evaluation and treatment for cancer-related symptoms — helping patients avoid unnecessary emergency room visits.
