Ludimila Cavalcante, MD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Cavalcante serves as Medical Director of Early Phase I Developmental Therapeutics and is actively involved in clinical trials and early drug development in the Phase I Clinical Trials Unit at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. She is a board certified medical oncologist.
Dr. Cavalcante is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. She holds professional memberships with American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, American Association for Cancer Research, European Society for Medical Oncology, American Society of Hematology and European Hematology Association.
Dr. Cavalcante earned her medical degree at Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. She completed a fellowship in medical oncology at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison, Wisconsin, and a fellowship in developmental therapeutics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Cavalcante's research focuses on oncology drug development and translation of pre-clinical compounds to first-in-human studies, as well as immune-oncology compounds and targeted therapies. To accomplish this, she is also focused on process improvement and acceleration of activation times of clinical trials, as well as expansion of outreach programs to increase accrual into early phase studies.
