Carl D'Orsi, MD, is a leader in breast imaging research and teaches multiple subjects at Emory University School of Medicine. He began practicing at Emory Healthcare in 2002 and has been board certified in radiology since 1971.
Dr. D'Orsi is founder and member of the Society of Breast Imaging. He holds memberships with the Association of Cancer Research, the Society for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, the American College of Radiology, the Georgia Radiological Society, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the Radiological Society of North America. He is also the former president of the Society for Advancement of Women's Imaging and Chair of the BI-RADS Committee with the American College of Radiology.
Dr. D'Orsi attended medical school at the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center. He completed his internship at the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn and completed residencies in the radiology departments of Kings County Hospital and New York Medical College.
Dr. D'Orsi and his research group at the University of Massachusetts, in collaboration with researchers at the University of Colorado, conducted the first-ever screening trial that compared film and screen to digital mammography in the United States. He has since directed many clinical trials including a recent, large trial for stereo digital mammography at Winship.
Dr. D'Orsi is associate editor of Radiology. He has publications in the academic journals Radiology, Journal of the American College of Radiology, and the New England Journal of Medicine, among others. His current work is in refining breast tomosynthesis and further developing photon-counting mammography.

Dr. D'Orsi is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Radiology Editor's Award with Distinction (1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 2003, 2004, 2009, and Special Distinction in 2006 and 2007) and the Birmingham Women's Hospital Radiology Alumnus of the Year Award (2002). He has also received the Distinguished Committee Service Award from the American College of Radiology, the Distinguished Service Award from the American Board of Radiology, and the Gold Medal Award from the Society of Breast Imaging. In 2005, Atlanta Magazine named Dr. D'Orsi a "Top Doctor in Diagnostic Radiology," and in 2007, Who's Who in America awarded him the Publication Board Award for their 61st edition.
