Clayton Hess, MD, MPH, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. A board certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Hess practices adult and pediatric radiation oncology with a focus on treating brain tumors, head and neck tumors, and bone and soft tissue sarcomas. He is a member of the physician team at Emory Proton Therapy Center, Emory University Hospital Midtown and Loughlin Radiation Oncology Center at Grady.

Dr. Hess is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control research program at Winship Cancer Institute. He also holds professional memberships with American Society of Radiation Oncology and Pediatric Radiation Oncology Society. He is a member and Radiation Oncology Young Investigator for International Outreach of the Children's Oncology Group. He is also a member of the International Pediatric Radiation Oncology Society participating in the low- and middle-income countries working group.


Dr. Hess earned his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University and received a Master of Public Health from Harvard University. He completed an internship at University of Texas at Austin and a residency in radiation oncology at University of California, Davis. Dr. Hess then completed three years of clinical and research fellowship in pediatric proton therapy and neuro-oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University where he was awarded a NIH K12 research grant.


Dr. Hess' clinical and translational research interests are in brain tumors. In particular, he is interested in learning more about high-grade glioma and medulloblastoma circulating tumor cells and in novel solutions to health care disparities and clinical outcomes research.
