Biography
Dio Kavalieratos, PhD, PhD, FAAHPM, is Associate Professor and Director of Research and Quality for the Division of Palliative Medicine, within the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at Emory University. Dr. Kavalieratos is a health services researcher with expertise in qualitative methods, patient-reported outcomes, clinical trials, and evidence synthesis. He is keenly interested in mentoring trainees of all disciplines and stages regarding research and quality improvement in palliative care.
Education
Dr. Kavalieratos earned his PhD from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Research
Dr. Kavalieratos' work focuses on development, evaluation, and implementation of models of palliative care delivery in serious chronic illness. He has has been supported by a variety of public and private sources including National Palliative Care Research Center, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Publications
Dr. Kavalieratos research has appeared in journals such as JAMA, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of the American Heart Association, and Chest, among others. His work has been featured or he has been quoted by media outlets including the New York Times, Reuters, and STAT. Dr. Kavalieratos is an Associate Editor of Journal of Palliative Medicine, and serves on the Steering Committee of the Palliative Care Research Cooperative Group.

Dr. Kavalieratos received the 2019 Early Career Investigator Award from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), and he serves as Chair Elect of the AAHPM's Research Committee.
