Biography
Albert Losken, MD, FACS, is Professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. A board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Losken specializes in general and reconstructive plastic surgery with an emphasis on breast and head and neck reconstruction. He was an early advocate and practitioner of breast oncoplastic surgery, a method for breast cancer surgery in which surgical oncologists and plastic surgeons work together to remove the lesion and preserve and reconstruct breast tissue. He has also contributed to the development and refinement of body contouring after weight loss surgery.
Dr. Losken also performs live surgery and educates other plastic surgeons at the annual Atlanta Breast Symposium.
Dr. Losken is a Fellow of the American college of Surgeons. He holds professional memberships with American Association of Plastic Surgeons, Georgia Surgical Society, Southeastern Surgical Congress, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Association of Academic Chairmen of Plastic Surgery and Georgia Plastic Surgical Society.
Education
Dr. Losken received his Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at Emory University school of Medicine.
Research
Dr. Losken's research interests include reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery, body contouring following weight loss and the identification of more effective educational tools for plastic surgery, such as online modules, interactive text, and video formats.
Publications
Dr. Losken is a respected and sought after speaker at national meetings; has served as editor for the books Advances in Abdominal Wall Reconstruction (2012), Innovations in Plastic Surgery:Acellular Dermal Matrices in Breast Surgery (2010), and New Techniques in Partial Breast Reconstruction: The Oncoplastic Approach (2008); is associate editor of the breast surgery section of Annals of Plastic Surgery and on the editorial board of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal.
