Biography

Joseph Magliocca, MD, is Assistant Professor in the Division of Transplantation in the Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Magliocca, a board certified surgeon specializing in liver transplantation, also serves as Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Dr. Magliocca belongs to numerous professional organizations including American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, The Transplantation Society, American Society of Transplantation, International Pediatric Transplant Association, International Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association, and Association for Academic Surgery. He is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at Winship.

Education

Dr. Magliocca earned his MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After obtaining his MD, he completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Magliocca also completed a research fellowship and an Abdomincal Organ Transplant Surgery fellowship at the University of Wisconsin.

Research

Dr. Magliocca's research interests include organ preservation, ischemia/reperfusion injury and management of immunosuppression in patients following transplantation.
