Bernardo Mainou, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University.
Dr. Bernardo is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute.
Dr. Mainou received his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then was a postdoctoral fellow at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Mainou's research focuses on understanding how viruses infect, replicate, and kill cells and apply that knowledge to develop improved cancer-killing virus vectors. The objectives of his research are to define host and microbial factors that mediate productive infection of the host cell, identify specific viral components that promote infection and killing of cancer cells, and to identify drugs for the development of enhanced combinatorial viral oncolytic therapeutics.
