Biography
Joe Nocera, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Nocera is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Winship Cancer Institute.
Education
Dr. Nocera earned his Master of Science in Kinesiology/Exercise Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 2004. He then earned his PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Georgia in 2007. Then, in 2010, he earned his postdoctoral in Neurology and Aging from the University of Florida.
Research
Dr. Nocera’s research has predominantly focused on understanding the intersection of physical and cognitive functioning in older adults and patients with neurological diseases. For the last 10 years, Dr. Nocera has focused on examining longitudinal changes in mobility and executive functions brought on by aging, neurological disease and/or interventions, specifically aerobic exercise. He has recently begun collaborating with other doctors on cancer and cancer related treatments that impact both physical and cognitive functioning and how exercise can lessen decline.
