Biography
David M. Schuster, MD, is Professor in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Schuster serves as Director of the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and is a Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Scientist. Board certified in radiology and nuclear medicine, he specializes in molecular medicine and integrative imaging.
Dr. Schuster is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics research program at Winship Cancer Institute. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, and holds professional memberships with Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and American College of Nuclear Medicine.
Education
Dr. Schuster earned his Medical Degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, where he completed his internship as well. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. He conducted his fellowship in nuclear radiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
Research
Dr. Schuster's research focus concerns projects involving molecular and nuclear imaging, with a special emphasis on positron emission tomography cancer imaging with novel radiotracers for cancer diagnosis and staging, especially the use of amino acid transport imaging for oncologic applications. He is principal investigator on multiple NIH studies and other sponsored research grants.

Dr. Schuster is the recipient of the Society of Nuclear Medicine Tetalman Award and the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) Radiology Research Alliance New Investigator Award, 2014. In 2020, he received the Emory 1% Award which recognizes Emory faculty whose National Institutes of Health (NIH) proposals have been ranked in the top 1% by NIH reviewers.
