Biography

Lisa Sudmeier, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. As a radiation oncologist, Dr. Sudmeier treats patients with brain and spinal tumors at Emory University Hospital (Clifton campus).

Dr. Sudmeier holds professional memberships with American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Board of Radiology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, American Association for Women in Radiology, Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, Society for Neuro-Oncology, and Radiation Research Society.

Education

Dr. Sudmeier earned her MD and her PhD in neuroscience from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin. She completed an internship in internal medicine and a radiation oncology residency, where she was chief resident in her final year, at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. During residency training, she also completed a research fellowship in cancer immunology with Dr. Rafi Ahmed of the Emory Vaccine Center.

Research

The goal of Dr. Sudmeier's research work is to develop improved treatments for brain metastases and primary brain tumors, with a focus on immunotherapies. Her research program aims to understand the interplay between the unique immune microenvironment of the brain and the immune cells infiltrating tumors growing in the brain and to determine how the biology of these immune cells is affected by different cancer treatments.

Publications

Dr. Sudmeier has been published in numerous scientific journals including Cell Reports Medicine, STAR Protocols, Current Treatment Options in Oncology, Translational Lung Cancer Research and Disease Models and Mechanisms. She is an ad hoc reviewer for Journal of Immunotherapy of Cancer, Cancer Medicine, International Journal of Radiation Biology and Neurosurgery.
