Biography
Gulisa Turashvili, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. An anatomic pathologist, Dr. Turashvili specializes in gynecologic and breast pathology.
Dr. Turashvili is a member of the Cell and Molecular Biology Research Program at Winship. She is also a member of multiple committees, including the Anatomic Pathology Quality Assurance Committee at Emory University Hospital, the Emory Alliance for Women in Medicine and Science steering committee, Pathology Work Group of International Gynecologic Cancer Society, Abstract Review Committee and Membership Committee of United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology, CheckPath Anatomic Pathology Committee of American Society for Clinical Pathology, NeoSTEEP Working Group of the National Cancer Institute and the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium, Education Committee of Georgia Association of Pathology, Malignant Germ Cell International Consortium and others.
Education
Dr. Turashvili received her MD from Tbilisi State Medical University in Tbilisi, Georgia. She earned her PhD from Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. She completed fellowships in gynecologic pathology and breast pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York.
Research
Dr. Turashvili's research aims to improve the practice of women's health pathology in triple-negative and special-type breast cancers and inflammatory breast diseases as well as rare cervical and ovarian epithelial neoplasms and uterine mesenchymal neoplasms.
Publications
Dr. Turashvili has been published in peer reviewed scientific journals. She is an editorial board member of BMC cancer, associate editor of Frontiers in Oncology and a subspecialty editor (gynecologic: ovary, fallopian tube) of PathologyOutlines.
In 2022, Dr. Turashvili was inducted to the MilliPub Club which recognizes Emory University faculty who have published one or more papers throughout their careers that have each garnered more than 1,000 citations.
