Biography
Monica B. Umpierrez, MD, is an Assistant Professor and Interim Division Director of the Musculoskeletal Section in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Emory School of Medicine. Dr. Umpierrez is a board certified diagnostic radiologist specializing in musculoskeletal ultrasound and MRI. She is developing the musculoskeletal ultrasound program at different locations within the Emory Healthcare system.
Dr. Umpierrez holds memberships in American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, Radiological Society of North America, Skeletal Radiology Society and Ecuadorian College of Physicians.
Education
Dr. Umpierrez received her Medical Degree from Universidad Catolica in Guayaquil, Ecuador. She completed her postdoctoral training at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
Research
Dr. Umpierrez's research interests have focused on the clinical and radiological manifestations of patients with heterotopic ossification (HO) in patients with neurogical disorders. She is also collaborating with the Orthopedic Department in evaluating the factors for graft failure after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.
