Biography

M. Neale Weitzmann, PhD, is Professor of Medicine and an Associate Director of the Bone Laboratory in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Weitzmann is also a research biologist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Atlanta VA Medical Center. He is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics research program at Winship Cancer Institute.

Education

Dr. Weitzmann received his PhD in Medical Biochemistry from Medical School, University of the Witwatersrand at Johannesburg, South Africa. His postdoctoral training included a fellowship in the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He also completed a fellowship in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.

Research

Dr. Weitzmann's research focus centers on metabolic bone disease and the mechanisms that drive bone loss in multiple pathological conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, aging, postmenopausal osteoporosis, HIV-infection, antiretroviral therapy and cancer metastases to bone.
