Biography

Jim Zhong, MD, is associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. A board certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Zhong specializes in the treatment of central nervous system malignancies, including brain and spine tumors, and head and neck cancer. He treats patients at Winship Cancer Institute's Clifton campus and Emory Proton Therapy Center.

Dr. Zhong is a member of multiple professional organizations including Society for Neuro-Oncology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, and American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Education

Dr. Zhong completed medical school at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. After medical school, Dr. Zhong returned to his home city of Atlanta, Georgia to complete his residency in radiation oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. He was selected to serve as chief resident during his final year of residency training.

Research

Dr. Zhong's research interest focuses on optimizing treatment outcomes for patients with malignant brain tumors, including glioblastomas, as well as the multidisciplinary management of brain metastases. He is currently the principal investigator of a study which seeks to evaluate treatment efficacy with focus on maximizing the quality of life in patients with brain metastases.

Awards

During his training, Dr. Zhong earned several honors including the 2017 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Conquer Foundation Merit Award and the Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award. He also received the honors of Phi Beta Kappa and the Barry M. Goldwater honorable mention during his attendance at Emory University.
