Ms. Byrd has been a nurse navigator since 2007. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1988 and is certified in both Medical-Surgical and Gastroenterology Nursing. Ms. Byrd holds a Nurse Navigator Certificate from Georgia Highlands College. She is also the coordinator for Saint Joseph's Hospital virtual colonoscopy program which started in 2007. Her work experience has been in medical-surgical, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, radiology and breast health. Her specialties are breast, gastrointestinal, and lung cancers.
Ms. Byrd is member of the Society for Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates and the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators.
Ms. Byrd has written two abstracts for the Evidence Based Practice Toolkit Conference in Atlanta, GA. The poster presentations featured IV Catheters Winged vs. Non-Winged in response to increasing numbers of extravasations with IV contrast and Creatinine Testing: Point of Care vs. Laboratory Processed Specimen when looking at cost effectiveness and patient wait times.
