Martha has been a social worker in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine for over 10 years. In this role, she identifies the needs of oncology patients and provides support and resources for patients, caregivers and families. She has facilitated cancer support groups and has served on the Planning Committee for the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge. She is a member of the Association of Oncology Social Work and the Georgia Social Work Oncology Group.
Ms. Giardina graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Social Work. Following employment with an adoption agency, Martha came to work at the Emory where she was a general social worker for Clinic A and B for 10 years.
Ms. Giardina grew up in Alabama but has lived most of her life in the Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta. Her son, Jack, has been overseas, to Germany and Japan, for the past six years in the Air Force. He was recently reassigned to Sheppards Air Force Base in Texas. She has been a member of a book club for 23 years, loves reading, cooking, watching birds and spending time with family and friends.
