Biography

Alina Peña is responsible for the Data Safety and Monitoring Committee (DSMC) areas of the Clinical Trials Office at Winship Cancer Institute and its affiliated sites. Her team supports the DSMC in safeguarding participants and assessing safety and efficacy through monitoring clinical trials and adherence to the institution's established Data Safety Monitoring Plan.

Ms. Peña joined the Winship from the University of New Mexico, an AAHRP certified institution, with over 10 years of experience in IRB administration and clinical trials monitoring as well as developing the post approval monitoring program. In her role as Quality Assurance/Improvement Manager, she worked closely with researchers and key stakeholders to assure good clinical practice and regulatory adherence. She managed innovative clinical trials researching the effects of ecological momentary assessment on individuals with substance abuse disorder.
