Winship investigators bring new clinical and scientific insights to ASCO 2026

From immunotherapy breakthroughs to AI-driven innovations, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University investigators will present emerging research at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting in Chicago, May 29 – June 2.

Recognized as the world's largest clinical cancer research conference, the ASCO Annual Meeting brings together over 40,000 oncology professionals to explore the latest scientific discoveries and clinical insights shaping the future of cancer care.

Winship researchers and clinicians will contribute 47 presentations, including oral and poster abstracts, case-based panels, clinical science symposia and education sessions across multiple cancer types.

Several studies selected for presentation will report significant new findings, including:

• An AI-derived approach to detect immune patterns that predict whether immunotherapy will work better than chemotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer, presented by Winship researcher Cristian Barrera, PhD, MSc.
• A Phase 1b study of the TBL1-inhibitor drug tegavivint with gemcitabine in patients whose osteosarcoma has returned or not responded to treatment, presented by Winship pediatric oncologist Thomas Cash, MD, MSc.
• The association of patient-reported stress and depression with specific gene expression patterns in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, presented by Winship medical oncologist Shipra Gandhi, MD, MS.
• A Phase 2 evaluation of two-hour vs. six-hour oxaliplatin infusion times to treat nerve damage in patients with gastrointestinal cancers, presented by Winship medical oncologist Olumide B. Gbolahan, MBBS, MSc.
• The impact of telehealth on end-of-life care for Medicare patients, presented by Winship health policy researcher Ilana Graetz, PhD.
• The Phase 3 MajesTEC-9 trial comparing a new single-drug immune therapy (teclistamab) to standard treatment options for people whose multiple myeloma has returned or not responded to treatment, presented by Winship hematologist Roberto Mina, MD.
• Progression-free survival among ASCENT-04 trial participants after subsequent lines of treatment for advanced triple-negative breast cancer, presented by Winship medical oncologist Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, FASCO.
• A Phase 1/2a clinical trial testing a targeted radioactive drug for small cell lung cancer and other tumors that express the Delta-like ligand 3 protein, presented by Winship medical oncologist Ticiana Leal, MD.
• An Al-based pathology classifier to predict benefit from the androgen receptor inhibitor enzalutamide in advanced hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, presented by Winship doctoral student and ASCO Merit Award recipient Sebastian R. Medina, MSc.
• A study investigating whether long-term stress on the body explains how environmental exposures increase the risk of early-onset cancer, presented by Winship medical oncologist Ravi B. Parikh, MD, MPP, FACP.
• An advanced tissue-mapping technique to predict which patients with high-risk prostate cancer will benefit from adding the chemotherapy drug docetaxel after surgery, presented by Winship researcher Amritpal Singh, MBBS, MS.
