Continued Care After Treatment
When your cancer treatment is completed, no doubt you’ll want to return to the activities and interests you enjoyed prior to your diagnosis. However, various aspects of life may not be the same including your physical and emotional wellbeing and you may have financial concerns. The care team at Winship is here to help.
Your regular follow-up care will include frequent visits to your medical oncologist. Initially, follow-up care appointments occur every three to four months for several years after treatment, and then once or twice a year beyond that. During a follow-up appointment, your doctor will look for side effects from treatment and may order lab tests and imaging scans to see if your cancer has returned or spread to other parts of the body.
You should inform your doctor if you are experiencing any side effects or have any other concerns. The negative health effects of cancer and cancer treatments can last for many months after treatment is completed. Ask your doctor for a recommended follow-up care plan. Your doctor may consider to include telehealth visits as an option for follow-up care.

Support at Winship
In addition to providing follow-up medical care, we recognize the importance of the psychological and emotional aspects of living with a cancer diagnosis and of dealing with side effects. Our supportive oncology team addresses these issues in a timely manner with additional support from counselors, dietitians and social service professionals.
