Your First Visit

Once you have secured an appointment, it's time to prepare for your first visit.

We're grateful that you've chosen Winship Cancer Institute for our outstanding patient care. Here are a few things to consider when visiting us for the first time.

Items to Bring on your First Visit

When coming to any of our clinics to visit with your doctor or care team, we recommend dressing in comfortable clothes and footwear. A light sweater or shawl is recommended to keep warm. We also encourage you to come with a family member or a friend, if the visitor policy allows. All patients and visitors will be asked to wear a mask at all times.

Once your appointment has been confirmed, you should begin gathering the items you'll need for your first appointment which we have outlined for you below:

  • List of current medications and dosages
  • Pathology slides
  • Scan and X-ray films
  • Copy of your insurance card, front and back (Questions about insurance? Visit Insurance Coverage.)
  • A book for while you wait, or even a tablet or laptop (free WiFi available; connect to EHCGuest)

You may be asked to assist us in obtaining records from your referring or current physician. Much of the information can be provided via fax to Winship prior to your initial visit. We will help you understand what we need and explain why. Examples of things we may ask for are:

  • Pathology reports
  • Lab reports
  • X-ray and scan reports
  • History and Physical
  • Office notes
  • Treatment records
  • Operative reports
