Managing Your Care at Winship

The nurse navigators at Winship Cancer Institute are clinically trained professionals responsible for the identification and removal of barriers to timely and appropriate cancer care and treatment.

When faced with a cancer diagnosis, you will deal with a host of logistical, emotional, financial and other challenges that may make it difficult for you to focus on your treatment and get back to routine life.

This is where one of our nurse navigators can help you "connect the dots." As experienced oncology-certified nurses, our nurse navigators can help you better understand your diagnosis and treatment options, which can help reduce anxiety and expedite your care. Because they are your first point of contact after you schedule your appointment, you can begin addressing concerns you have by asking questions right away.

A nurse navigator will:

  • Prepare you for your visit before you even arrive on campus.
  • Work with clinicians to coordinate your schedule and your appointments.
  • Make you aware of the various phases of your treatment, the people you will meet, and where you will need to go.
  • Help you navigate the health care system.
  • Act as your advocate and central point of contact during your care at Winship.
