Adult Survivorship

Life after a cancer diagnosis can be anything but ordinary. At Winship, we're here to assist our patients and their loved ones to transition through and after their treatment.

Survivorship is a broad term that applies to people who have been diagnosed with cancer and are at any stage after diagnosis. Cancer survivorship also includes others, such as friends and family members, affected by that diagnosis.

Survivorship Care Services at Winship

It is important to understand that it takes time to recover and adjust to life after a cancer diagnosis. It may not be possible to return immediately to a previous version of “normal.” Determining what is the new normal may take some time.

At Winship, we understand that life after a cancer diagnosis can be anything but ordinary. That's why we are proud to offer various survivorship programs that provide education, social support and care to all Winship patients and their caregivers and families transitioning into post-treatment life.

Our programs provide:

  • Long-term support and care
  • Outreach activities
  • Educational sessions
  • Support groups

Your Care as a Survivor

Every cancer survivor has different needs. We encourage you to discuss this with your cancer care team at any time.

Some of the things you can expect during and after your care include:

  • Integrated follow-up care with your Winship doctors
  • A visit with your social worker and a brief symptom assessment
  • Treatment summary
  • Copy of your pathology report
  • Personalized survivorship care plan

If you were treated for cancer as a child, are 21 years of age or older and two years off treatment, you should contact the Young Adult Cancer Survivorship Program to schedule an appointment.

Additional Resources

Besides the survivorship program, we offer you a variety of resources including assistance with:

  • Physical issues
  • Emotional well-being
  • Relationships
  • Diet, nutrition and exercise
  • Finances and careers
  • Follow up care

The National Cancer Institute provides additional information and resources for survivors through a program called CancerCare.
