Biography
Maggie Diller, MD, is an assistant professor of the Division of General and GI Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Diller is a member of is a member of the Cancer Immunology Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her primary clinical interests are minimally invasive and robotic surgery, primary and revisional bariatric surgery, hernia surgery including non-mesh hernia repair, chronic groin pain, gastroesophageal reflux and benign foregut disease.
Dr. Diller received her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at Emory University School of Medicine and her clinical fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

Research
Dr. Diller's research interests include mind-body and complementary therapies into perioperative care; non-pharmacologic management of surgical pain and chronic pain syndromes; and investigations into the connection between local and systemic inflammation and pain-related syndromes.

Awards
In 2021, Dr. Diller was the first recipient of the Department of Surgery Pilot Research Award, which she applied to evaluating a post-surgical pain management using a digital mindfulness intervention. Specifically, her study investigated the feasibility of a unique guided meditation designed by her team in collaboration with yoga and meditation science experts to control pain following oncologic surgery. The team adapted the exercise for delivery to patients via mobile phones.
