The James A. Hotz MD Award for Exceptional Leadership in Cancer Health Equity recognizes an individual or group who demonstrates outstanding leadership in the state of Georgia to reduce cancer disparities, promote cancer health equity, build partnerships, and advocate for access and quality cancer prevention, early detection, and care for all.
The award is named in honor of James A. Hotz, MD, a Board-Certified Internist and Master of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Hotz has lived a life of service to the people of Georgia, through the founding of Albany Area Primary Health Care, his longtime practice as a physician in Albany, Georgia, his advocacy for rural health priorities, his dedication and leadership with the Georgia Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan, and his strong partnerships with community, academic, and government organizations to further the goals for cancer health equity in the state of Georgia.
The recognition will be given annually at the State Cancer Summit with the award provided by the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Nominations may be made by anyone in the state of Georgia and the final winner will be selected by an Awards Committee composed of previous recipients, a subgroup of members from the State Cancer Summit Planning Committee.
