Hot Off the Press! Fall Issue of Winship Magazine Now Available

Be sure to pick up a copy of the fall issue of the Winship Magazine or check out our digital version. This edition takes a look back at all five years of the highly successful Winship 5K. The magazine also turns the spotlight on the Winship Genetic Counseling Program and features a story about Atlanta TV icon Monica Kaufman Pearson and her treatment at Winship for liver cancer.

Waller to Co-Chair World Stem Cell Summit
Edmund K. Waller, MD, PhD, director of Winship's Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Program, will be a co-chair of the upcoming World Stem Cell Summit to be held in Atlanta December 10-12. Waller says "Emory University is pleased to be a co-sponsor of the summit partnering with the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech and the Regenerative Engineering and Medicine (REM) Research Center."

VP Biden Supports New Brain Tumor Study
Winship neuropathologist Daniel J. Brat, MD, PhD got to meet and shake hands with Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, both advocates for new research into glioblastoma (GBM), the deadliest form of brain tumor. Brat is part of a global alliance that announced the start of the GBM AGILE trial at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on November 12.

Emory Saint Joseph's Opens New Hematology Clinic
A new hematology clinic has opened at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. This clinic is just the first phase of several to be completed at the hospital to better serve cancer patients in the Atlanta area.

The AAMC Group on Research Advancement and Development (GRAND) has selected "Chasing Metastatic Cancer Cells" featuring Adam Marcus, PhD and his lab team as the winner of a video contest highlighting basic biomedical research underway at AAMC-member institutions.
