Delman Named Associate Editor of CA
Keith A. Delman, MD, Carlos Professor of Surgery and Winship member, was appointed associate editor of CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. Published by the American Cancer Society since 1950, it has the highest impact factor of all ISI-ranked journals.
 
  
Nivolumab Trial Results Published in NEJM
Winship oncologist Nabil Saba, MD and colleagues recently published their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). Nivolumab was evaluated among patients with recurrent squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

Obama Signs 21st Century Cures Act

President Obama signed the 21st Century Cures Act on December 13, a medical funding bill that includes the Cancer Moonshot initiative. Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD commented on the legislation and its implications for cancer research.

Woodruff Leadership Academy Names Fellows
Drs. Suresh Ramalingam, Kimberly Kerstann, Stephen Szabo, and Cynthia Wetmore will represent Winship in the 2017 Woodruff Leadership Academy, a program for leaders within Emory's Woodruff Health Sciences Center.

A new Emory Clinic urology practice is now open to patients at Emory Johns Creek Hospital, which provides diagnosis and treatment for patients with urologic conditions.

Managers Named in Winship Nutrition and Social Services
Congratulations to Winship staff members Tiffany Barrett and Beth Perlmutter on their recent promotions. Barrett has been promoted to manager of Winship dietitians. Perlmutter has been promoted to manager of Winship social services.
 
  
Konen Successfully Defends Thesis
Jessica Konen, a PhD student in cancer biology, delivered an oral presentation of her dissertation on December 15 titled, "Dissecting 3-D Invasion Mechanisms in Lung Cancer." Harris Family Presents Check to Winship
Winship hematologist Jean Khoury, MD joined members of the Harris family for a check presentation December 12. The funds were raised earlier this year at the Charles Harris Run for Leukemia, an annual 10K race that supports leukemia research at Winship.
