Winship Members Recognized for Faculty Excellence

Lung Cancer Screening Center Receives Accreditation

Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown have been designated Lung Cancer Screening Centers by the American College of Radiology. The voluntary program recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer.

Winton Honored as MPN Hero

Winship hematologist Elliott Winton, MD received a 2016 MPN Hero award in recognition of his commitment to researching and caring for patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), a group of rare blood cancers. Winship Invest$ Letters of Intent Due This Week

Winship is now accepting proposals for its third round of pilot funding opportunities through the Winship Invest$ program. Proposals are invited in five research domains with one-year budgets of up to $50,000. The deadline for interested candidates to submit letters of intent is December 9.

Khan Named to ABR Committee

Winship radiation oncologist Mohammad Khan, MD, PhD was selected to serve on the lymphoma/leukemia committee of the American Board of Radiology (ABR). This committee is responsible for coming up with questions for the initial certification qualifying examination for the ABR as well as the Maintenance of Certification examination.

Umstead Earns Inaugural Diversity Graduate Award

MaKendra Umstead, a PhD student in cancer biology, has been awarded the first Kharen Fulton Diversity Graduate Award, a tribute to Laney Graduate School's longtime director of recruitment, diversity and admissions.

Shah Successfully Defends Thesis

Blanket Drive

Help keep our patients warm this winter by donating new fleece blankets through December 31. Collection boxes will be placed in team areas at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Johns Creek, Emory Saint Joseph's, and Clifton Road locations. The team that collects the most blankets will be recognized and win a pizza lunch.

Canned Food Drive

Emory Clinic is hosting a holiday canned food drive from December 5-16 benefiting the Decatur Cooperative Ministry. Drop-off boxes are located in the Winship Building C break rooms (C2008, C4000, and C5000) and Guest Services desks in Emory Clinic Buildings A and B. Items needed: canned meats, fruits, vegetables, and soups; cereals, rice, peanut butter, and dry beans.

The Emory/Georgia Tech Coulter Translational Program (due January 5, 2017) seeks to accelerate and fund the translation of promising technologies to commercial development and clinical practice.
