Winship Names Fashion Show Scholars

The annual Friends of Winship "Fashion a Cure" fashion show and luncheon, held on March 1 at the Cherokee Town Club in Atlanta, raised more than $170,000 for cancer research. During the event, Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD named two fashion show scholars: Suresh Ramalingam, MD and Sagar Lonial, MD. Pictured: Walter J. New Study Uses Cryoablation to Reduce Pain for Cancer Patients
A new study using cryoablation to decrease pain for patients who have cancer metastases in the bone is now underway throughout Emory Healthcare. Cryoablation is a process that uses extreme cold (cryo) to destroy or damage tissue (ablation).

Deng Awarded Two NIH R01 Grants
Winship cancer biologist Xingming Deng, MD, PhD is the principal investigator of two R01 grants from the National Institutes of Health. The grants, titled "Modulation of Bcl2 BH4 and mTOR in lung cancer therapeutics" and "Structure-based anticancer drug development," total over $3.6 million.

Winship Innovators Recognized

Emory University's Office of Technology Transfer celebrated faculty entrepreneurs at the 10th Annual Celebration of Technology and Innovation on March 3. Four Winship members received awards: Mark Goodman, PhD, Dennis Liotta, PhD, Khalid Salaita, PhD, and Madhuri Hegde, PhD.

HOPA Preconference
R. Donald Harvey, PharmD will lead a March 16 program to kick off the HOPA (Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association) Annual Conference in Atlanta March 16 - 19. The preconference, titled "Phase I Clinical Trials: Establishing a Culture and Infrastructure for Conducting Drug Development Studies," will take place in the John H. Kauffman Auditorium on Winship's 5th floor, 7am to 11am.

Khan Named Panel Chair for ACR
Winship radiation oncologist Mohammad Khan, MD, PhD was recently named the new panel chair of the Leukemia/Lymphoma section of the American College of Radiology (ACR)'s In-Training Examination program. ACR is the principal organization of radiologists, radiation oncologists, and clinical medical physicists in the U.S.
