Winship Gala Breaks Fundraising Record for Emory University

The fourth Winship Gala, which took place Saturday, April 30, is being called the most successful fundraising event in Emory University's history, raising more than $1.3 million dollars. The proceeds will benefit cancer research at Winship.

Winship Pilots New Study for Women with Family History of Breast, Ovarian Cancer
A new Winship clinical study seeks to increase the number of women at hereditary risk for breast and ovarian cancer who are seen for genetic counseling services. As part of the study, researchers will use the Breast Cancer Genetics Referral Screening Tool (B-RST).

Xiao Receives Oncology Nursing Society Award
Winship member Canhua Xiao, PhD, RN has received the Victoria Mock New Investigator Award from the Oncology Nursing Society, an award given at the annual Oncology Nursing Society Congress held April 28 - May 1. Xiao is also the recipient of a new $1.5 million R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Nursing Research.

Commission on Cancer Accreditation

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has granted full accreditation to the Integrated Network Cancer Program at Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital and Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Toncred Styblo, MD, chair of the Winship and Emory Healthcare Integrated Cancer Network says "this recognizes our commitment as a network to provide patient centered cancer care and standardized quality cancer care across Winship and Emory Healthcare." This was the first year as an integrated program across all of Emory Healthcare and it brought together key providers and staff from all four hospitals.

The Human Tissue Procurement Service, part of Winship's Cancer Tissue and Pathology Shared Resource, collects, stores, and distributes human tissues to clinicians and researchers. A new website for the service launched last week.
