Winship participates in global study to test new breast cancer drug
Winship is one of 500 centers around the world that will participate in a first-of-its-kind study to test a new drug on patients diagnosed with HER2 negative breast cancer and who also have inherited mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes. Elisavet Paplomata, MD is the principal investigator at Winship.

Harvey to lead DSMC
R. Donald Harvey, PharmD, director of the Phase I Clinical Trials Section, is the new leader of the Data Safety and Monitoring Committee (DSMC) at Winship. The position was previously held by Suresh Ramalingam, MD who assumed the role of Winship deputy director at the beginning of the year. The DSMC helps ensure the safety of all research participants, ethical research conduct, and data integrity.
 
  
ASCO Award goes to radiation oncology resident
Winship radiation oncology resident Richard Cassidy, MD, is the recipient of a 2016 Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Merit Award. Cassidy was one of 102 young oncologists from a dozen countries recognized for exceptional research.

Winship faculty and staff recently took part in the MMRF Team for Cures: Atlanta 5K this past weekend! Chaired by Winship's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sagar Lonial, the event raised awareness for multiple myeloma and raised funds in support of Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
