Winship 5K Raises Record Amount to Benefit Cancer Research

The Winship Win the Fight 5K Walk/Run, held on Saturday, October 1, raised a record $880,000 in cancer research funding. Under sunny skies, more than three thousand runners and walkers tackled the Peachtree Road Race qualifying course on the Emory University campus.

Winship Patients Take Part in 0.5K Race Indoors
Winship patients at Emory University Hospital, many of whom are recovering from surgery or a bone marrow transplant, participated in a 0.5K race indoors on September 27 to help raise funds for cancer research projects at Winship. The patients, along with their caregivers, pushed IV poles or were wheeled around the 6th, 7th, and 8th floors of the hospital for 13 laps.
 
  
Israeli Delegation Visits Winship at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital
Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital hosted mayors and community leaders from the Western Galilee Cluster as part of a Sister City exchange with Sandy Springs. Winship radiation oncologist Shannon Kahn, MD introduced the Gamma Knife, a minimally invasive radiation treatment that is an alternative to traditional surgery.

Torres Speaks at Plastic Surgery Meeting
Mylin Torres, MD, director of the Glenn Family Breast Center at Winship, gave three talks at the September 27 "Super Tuesday" joint session of the Breast Cancer Coordinated Care and Annual American Society of Plastics Surgeons meeting in Los Angeles. Doetsch Co-Chairs and Speaks at Genomics Symposium
Paul Doetsch, PhD, Winship associate director for basic research, co-chaired a symposium titled "Regulation and Crosstalk of DNA Repair Pathways" on September 24 at the 47th Annual Meeting of the Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society in Kansas City, Missouri. Doetsch was also a featured speaker at the symposium.
