El-Rayes Honored with Kauffman Family Professorship at Winship

Bassel F. El-Rayes, MD, associate director of clinical research at Winship, was selected to hold the John Kauffman Family Professorship for Pancreatic Cancer Research. The newly endowed position was created to support an outstanding leader in the field of pancreatic cancer research and assist with the further development of Winship's gastrointestinal cancer efforts.

Cancer Moonshot Panel Releases New Report
The Cancer Moonshot Blue Ribbon Panel, made up of 28 scientific experts, cancer leaders, and patient advocates, released a 60-page report detailing recommendations for making progress against cancer. Winship was one of 10 regional sites to hold a Cancer Moonshot Summit in June.

Kucuk Named Gateway's Cancer Researcher of the Year
Omer Kucuk, MD was honored September 8 at a ceremony in New York as Gateway's Researcher of the Year. Gateway for Cancer Research is a non-profit organization that funds clinical trials for all types of cancer.
 
 
 
     
 
 
Winship Women in Cancer Research and Medicine
The inaugural meeting of Winship's Women in Cancer Research and Medicine took place on September 8. Carolyn Meltzer, MD spoke to the group about the importance of mentorship.
 
  
Cancer Imaging Workshop
Save the date for a workshop and launch of the Integrative Cancer Imaging Research Initiative on Friday, October 28 from 8am to 5pm in the HSRB auditorium. The keynote speaker is Annick Van Den Abbeele, MD, Harvard's chief of imaging.
