Aflac Cancer Center Joins Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium

Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is the newest member of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium, a highly selective National Cancer Institute cooperative group limited to 11 institutions. Winship members will lead consortium activities at the Aflac site, using their expertise to conduct innovative translational science and early-phase trials.

Gold Nanorods for Cancer Therapy
Winship and Georgia Tech researchers have optimized a technique for killing cancer cells in mice using gold nanorods and heat, publishing the results in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Winship Researchers Receive AACR Awards
The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) honored three Winship researchers during its meeting last week in Washington, D.C. Olatunji Alese, MD received a Minority and Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Award. Doctoral students Jason Conage-Pugh (pictured) and Doratha Byrd each earned Minority Scholar in Cancer Research Awards.

Cancer Biostatistics Course Returns for Fall Semester
Open to Emory medical and public health students, Applied Biostatistics and Bioinformatics in Cancer Research (BIOS 560R) will cover how and when to apply bioinformatics analysis workflows to turn cancer genomics data into clinically applicable knowledge. Students can enroll now through April 24.

Final Weeks to Register for Head and Neck Cancer Symposium
Winship's Updates in the Management of Head and Neck Cancer Symposium will take place on Saturday, April 22 in the Emory Health Sciences Research Building. Collaborators Plan Research Center in India

Winship members traveled to Delhi, India April 1-3 to meet with collaborators on a National Cancer Institute P20 grant. Michael Goodman, MD, MPH is principal investigator and Theresa Gillespie, PhD is a co-investigator on the project to develop a Regional Center for Research Excellence in cancer and non-communicable diseases in India.
