Winship Investigators Honored at ASCI
Three Winship investigators were recognized at the annual meeting of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) held April 21-23 in Chicago. Suresh Ramalingam, MD and Wilbur Lam, MD, PhD (pictured with Douglas Graham, MD, PhD) were inducted as ASCI members. Robert Schnepp, MD, PhD received ASCI's 2017 Young Physician-Scientist Award.

Winship Hematologists Meet with Aspiring Doctors
Christopher Flowers, MD and Leon Bernal-Mizrachi, MD attended the Student National Medical Association's Annual Medical Education Conference April 12-16 in Atlanta. The Winship clinicians teamed up with the American Society of Hematology to encourage underrepresented minority students to pursue careers in hematology.

Lonial Throws Out First Pitch for Emory Eagles
Sagar Lonial, MD, Winship chief medical officer, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Emory Eagles baseball game on April 22 at Chappell Park in Atlanta. The Eagles wrapped up their regular season with Saturday's win against New York University.
 
  
Atlanta Komen Race Moved to June 24
Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta has postponed the annual Race for the Cure amid traffic concerns related to the I-85 bridge collapse. The race will take place in Lenox Square on June 24, nine days after the I-85 bridge is scheduled to reopen.

Photos Highlight Women in Surgery

Female surgeons at Emory and around the world are recreating The New Yorker magazine's April 4th cover and sharing the photos online with the hashtags #ILookLikeASurgeon and #NYerCoverChallenge. Winship surgeon Amy Chen, MD, MPH is among those from Emory who have participated in the challenge, which is helping raise the visibility of women in surgery.

BBISR Offers Free Workshops for Investigators
Winship's Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BBISR) will host a series of five "do it yourself" workshops in June. Participants will learn different biostatistics and bioinformatics tools, techniques, and concepts to enhance their research. Space is limited. The deadline to register is May 15.
