Winship Names Fashion Show Scholars

Cupid helped to set the stage for Winship's 5th annual Fashion a Cure Fashion Show at the St. Regis Atlanta on Valentine's Day. During the event, which raised $300,000 for cancer research, Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD named two fashion show scholars: Xingming Deng, MD, PhD and Taofeek Owonikoko, MD, PhD.

Spider Web of Cancer Proteins Reveals New Drug Possibilities

Winship Nurses Receive Research Grant
Winship nurses Curlissa Mapp, Catherine Parker, Darlene Hostetler, Jill Sable, Elizabeth Gouge, Claudine Fortner, Margaret Masterson, and Michelle Styles have received a Daisy Foundation grant to study the effect of peppermint essential oil on a patient's self-reported level of nausea as it relates to chemotherapy treatment.

Winship Remembers Kris Greiner

Kris Greiner, a longtime Winship physician assistant, passed away on February 7. Greiner was the first advanced practice provider to work full time on the medical oncology inpatient service and, along with the excellent nursing staff, laid the foundation for what is now an outstanding ward.
 
 
 
     
 
 
NBC Shares Winship Patient's Love Story
The Valentine's Day edition of NBC Nightly News featured the love story of Debra Bradley and Gary Gross that began when Bradley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Bradley was successfully treated at Winship with therapy that included the experimental drug BBI-608.

Nurse Residency Program Launches at Winship
Six ambulatory oncology nurses attended orientation last week as part of Winship's new nurse residency program. The one-year residency supports newly graduated nurses as they transition into their first professional roles in clinical nursing.
