Winship and Morehouse Partner on $2 Million Grady Grant

Grady's Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence has received a five-year, $2 million Merck Foundation Award as part of the new Alliance to Advance Patient-Centered Cancer Care. Morehouse School of Medicine's Roland Matthews, MD and Winship's Sheryl Gabram-Mendola, MD, MBA will lead the grant as principal investigator and co-principal investigator.

Winship Invest$ Reaches Funding Milestone

Over $1 million was awarded through Winship Invest$ in 2016, funding 28 different research projects by Winship investigators. New funding opportunities and pilot grant recipients will be announced this later spring.

Slusser to Depart Emory

Kim Slusser, VP of cancer nursing, will be leaving Winship on March 3 in order to be closer to her family in North Carolina. A national search will be launched for her successor. Join us to say goodbye on March 1 from 11:30am - 2pm in Winship Room C4018. Dessert will be served.

Last Call for Entries: Science Photo Competition

Citizen Science HD, led by Winship's Adam Marcus, PhD and Theresa Gillespie, PhD, is sponsoring a science photo contest for researchers with a separate entry for K-12 students. Winning photos will be displayed at the High Museum during the Atlanta Science Festival on March 19.

Sengupta Lends Expertise to Local Play

Soma Sengupta, MD, PhD participated in a Q&A session at Atlanta's Horizon Theater Company following the February 19th performance of "Constellations." Sengupta served as a scientific consultant for the play, advising the cast and director on how to portray a person with a brain tumor.

Shaib Participates in NET Summit

Winship oncologist Walid Shaib, MD presented at the second annual Healing Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET) Foundation International NET Summit in Beaver Creek, Colo., February 21-23. The summit focused on unmet needs and improved treatments in neuroendocrine tumors.

New Hospital Tower Bridge Opens

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held February 20 to officially open the new Emory University Hospital pedestrian bridge that spans Clifton Road to the new hospital tower.
