Moreno Receives CURE Mentorship Honor
Carlos Moreno, PhD (center right) was named a Mentorship Honoree at the NCI's Celebrating 21 Years of the Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Program Recognition Ceremony on June 27 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Liu Awarded $50K "Shark Tank" Grant
Tian Liu, PhD has received a $50K grant for winning the shark tank competition at the Glenn Family Breast Center Retreat held June 23. Liu will use the funding to develop a new clinical trial that uses super high resolution ultrasound imaging to predict radiation-induced toxicity in breast cancer patients.
 
 
 
     
 
 
Lonial Named Section Editor of Journal Cancer
Sagar Lonial, MD, Winship chief medical officer and chair of hematology and medical oncology, has been named the hematologic malignancies section editor for the journal Cancer.

Saba Elected Chair of NCI Task Force
Winship medical oncologist Nabil Saba, MD has been elected chair of the National Cancer Institute's Head and Neck Cancer Metastatic-Recurrent Task Force. Saba will begin his term on July 1.
 
 
 

Winship Runners Gear Up for Peachtree Road Race

Radiation oncology resident Jason Parks, MD is among the Winship runners and walkers who will compete in tomorrow's AJC Peachtree Road Race. Parks was the 9th fastest Georgian in last year's race and the overall winner of the 2016 Winship 5K, a Peachtree Road Race qualifier.

Vietnamese Ministry of Health Visits Winship
Winship senior director of cancer research administration Kimberly Kerstann, PhD welcomed a delegation from Vietnam's Ministry of Health on June 29. The delegation met with Drs. Suresh Ramalingam, R. Donald Harvey, and Gregory Lesinski and toured Winship's Phase I Unit and research facilities.
 
 
 

The People Behind CCC

Winship's new National Cancer Institute comprehensive cancer center designation is due in part to the dedicated, highly-skilled Research IT team that designed custom web-based systems to manage data and generate reports for Winship's nearly 1,600-page Cancer Center Support Grant application. Board Review Features Winship Presenters
Twelve Winship physicians are course faculty for Emory's 42nd Annual Comprehensive Board Review in Internal Medicine, July 22-26 at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta. The course prepares physicians for the American Board of Internal Medicine certifying or re-certifying exams.

The Glenn Family Breast Center at Winship raised more than $14,000 for Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta at the annual Race for the Cure 5K run/walk on June 24.
