Synergy Awards Support New Winship Research

Seven Winship members (including Haian Fu, PhD and Suresh Ramalingam, MD, pictured above) are among the recipients of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center's 2017 Synergy II Awards. The awards are designed to spark new, synergistic interactions and high-impact science. Applications for the next cycle of Synergy Awards are due June 30.

Khoury Honored by Cure CML Consortium
The Cure CML Consortium announced it will change its name to the Jean Khoury Cure CML Consortium after the beloved Winship hematologist who passed away May 22, 2017. Khoury was a founding member of the consortium, which focuses on improving outcomes for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia.
Nominations Open for Rearden Spirit of Winship Awards
The Robert L. "Bobby" Rearden, Jr. Spirit of Winship Award honors one faculty or staff member and one volunteer who exemplify Winship's culture of caring for patients. Nomination forms are due by 5pm on Friday, June 23.

The People Behind CCC

Innovative cancer research was a major part of Winship's success in achieving National Cancer Institute comprehensive cancer center designation. Martin G. Sanda, MD, chair of Emory's Department of Urology and Winship prostate cancer specialist, led a study of biomarkers in urine that may help some men avoid having to undergo an unnecessary biopsy to detect a suspected prostate malignancy. The National Cancer Institute featured the study in a recent blog post.
