Winship Research Highlighted at AACR Annual Meeting

Winship investigators will present their research in poster sessions and special sessions at the 2018 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting, Apr. 14-18, in Chicago. Winship Deputy Director Suresh Ramalingam, MD is a featured speaker in the plenary session on Apr. 16 titled "Immunotherapy Combinations: The New Frontier in Lung Cancer."

Winship Researchers Awarded NCI R01 Grant
Drs. Cam Escoffery and Ann Mertens have received a five-year, nearly $3 million R01 grant from the National Cancer Institute. The project, a collaboration between Rollins School of Public Health and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, is the first comprehensive, effectiveness-implementation study to evaluate the impact of an electronic personal health record and education system (SurvivorLink) for pediatric cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Filson Awarded ACS Mentored Research Scholar Grant
Winship urologist Christopher Filson, MD, MS has been awarded a four-year, $580,000 Mentored Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society (ACS). Funding from the award will support his project "MRI-guided Prostate Biopsy: Maximizing Value and Optimizing Utilization." Drs. Martin Sanda and David Howard will serve as mentors on the project that includes collaborators from Emory and Georgia Tech.
 
 
 

Winship's Rockin' Enrollers

Winship is committed to accelerating the testing of new cancer treatments through clinical research. Winship recognizes the following physicians at each Winship study site who have enrolled the most patients onto NCI National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) studies during the last six months: Drs. Mehmet Bilen (Clifton Campus), Chunzhi Xia (Atlanta VAMC), Shannon Kahn (Emory St. Joseph's Hospital), Jonathan Beitler (Midtown), and Jay Shelton (Grady).

NCI Launches Clinical Trial Specimen Resource
The National Cancer Institute's National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) Navigator is a new research resource for the scientific community. The publicly searchable database includes high-quality specimens from completed NCTN Phase III adult cancer trials that are linked to outcomes data.

The award was created to honor the memory of former Winship patient Bobby Rearden, a founding member of Winship's Advisory Board.
