Winship Awards Three New Endowed Chairs

Lung Cancer More Fatal for Women in Two U.S. Regions
While lung cancer death rates among women in most of the U.S. have declined in recent years, two regions are lagging in progress, according to a new study led by Rollins School of Public Health doctoral student Katherine Ross, MPH. The findings were published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Student Health Care Innovators Receive Grants
Rollins School of Public Health doctoral student Caitlin Allen, MPH has received a Georgia CTSA/Healthcare Innovation Program grant. Winship members Cam Escoffery, PhD, MPH and Colleen McBride, PhD, MA are mentors on the project, which will explore the role of community health workers in improving the uptake of family health history assessment in clinical settings.

Lowe Receives Young Investigator Award in Surgical Oncology
Winship surgical oncologist Michael Lowe, MD, MA is the recipient of Society of Surgical Oncology Foundation Young Investigator Award. The award provides $25,000 for a translational or clinical research project.

Yeung Earns American Skin Association Research Grant
Winship dermatologist Howa Yeung, MD is the recipient of a American Skin Association Research Grant. Yeung will use the funding for his project, "Quality of Life Impact from Cutaneous Toxicity of Immunotherapy for Melanoma."
